On February 1st, 2005 the eighth graders
of Gulliver Academy embarked on trip to Washington DC the capital of the
world. They saw many monuments including the Washington Memorial, Lincoln
Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and World War II Memorial. Apart from the
learning experiences we had many activities for plain pleasure like
bowling and a snowball fight at the awakening. And our trip was full of
education areas including the Air and Space Museum, Fords Theatre, Natural
History Museum, American History Museum, and the Holocaust Memorial
Museum. All of their days were filled with excitement and learning and
they returned to their Best Western Hotel exhausted. All the students
found new friends and ideas on the trip and came back happy and fulfilled.
The trip was an amazing experience that all of us will remember for the
rest of our lives.
Before the trip I had a feeling of great
anticipation and joy that I would be skipping school. I was also
interested in learning about a place I had only been to a couple of times
before. I was also excited about the non-educational activities including
seeing snow for the first time since I was three and being with my friends
for four days. I felt energized and ready to have fun after hearing all
the amazing things from eighth graders past.
When I came back I had changed a lot
from my experiences in Washington DC. I had learned many new and
interesting facts about my country and the world that I had not known
before. One fact that stuck in my mind was that movie stars went under
cover during World War II to get information for the US, sometimes even
risking their own lives. I also felt happy and satisfied having gotten the
full experience at Washington DC. I also met many interesting people
including my bus driver John who was is a veteran of the Vietnam War and
had many interesting facts and tidbits that helped our trip become more
interesting. And I felt happy to be home because I had been exhausted
during the trips activities and caught a cold.
